On Tuesday in Oran, Algeria overcame a depleted Super Eagles team 2-1 in a friendly match.

Victor Osimhen of Napoli and William Troost-Ekong, among other important players, were absent from Nigeria for the match in the North African country.

But after just eight minutes of play, Terem Moffi’s goal for Nigeria gave Jose Peseiro’s team the lead. It was his first national team goal in five games.

Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez levelled things for the Fennecs in the 40th minute when he converted from the spot.

The Peseiro suffered his first defeat to an African team since taking over the team earlier this year when Youcef Atal cracked the net 21 minutes later.

Nigeria and Algeria have played 21 times together, whereas Tuesday’s match will be just the second friendly between the two countries.

There were three draws out of the nine victories for each team.

Nigeria had just fought to a 2-2 draw with the Algerian team playing at home last week. Although neither team advanced to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, the Nigerian coach was hoping to get to know the players better through the matches.
