Adepoju Confirmed as Comptroller General of Nigerian Immigration Service

In a recent announcement, President Bola Tinubu officially confirmed the appointment of Wura-Ola Adepoju as the substantive Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS). Adepoju, who has been acting CG since May 29, 2023, shared the news during the Comptroller General’s parade on Wednesday.

Adepoju revealed that the date for her official decoration would be announced soon. The Public Relations Unit of the NIS quoted her saying, “You may also wish to know, that through the grace of God and by the benevolence of the present government, I have been confirmed as a substantive Comptroller General of Immigration.”

The newly appointed CG also announced the promotion of several members of the top management team to the ranks of Deputy Comptrollers General. She mentioned that the date for their decoration would be communicated in due course.

During the parade, Adepoju paid tribute to service members who recently lost their lives in the line of duty. She announced the creation of an Endowment Fund by the Service to support the families of the deceased. The statement noted that donations had been received, and widows were being considered for employment in the Service if they met the required qualifications.

Adepoju called on all officers and staff of the NIS to maintain the highest level of dedication and professionalism in their service. She also urged Nigerians to renew their passports six months before expiration and cautioned against patronizing touts.

The CG shared plans for the introduction of a paperless passport application system, allowing applicants to apply from the comfort of their homes. Additionally, she highlighted the NIS’s efforts to expand service points abroad to accommodate the increasing number of Nigerians returning from the diaspora, particularly during the festive period.

“As we approach the festive period, we expect many Nigerians from the diaspora to be coming home. The CGI will work with the DCG Passport and other Travel Documents as well as the DCG Border Management to ensure that we are able to assist those coming with expired Passports. We will have dedicated service points to help them,” Adepoju stated.

Furthermore, she encouraged adults to apply for the 64-page, 10-year-valid passport to reduce the need for frequent renewals.
