Adamawa council poll: APC rejects results over alleged malpractice

204

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the results of the April 9 Adamawa local government councils poll, saying it was not the true reflection of the election.

Mr Ahmad Abubakar, the Chairman of the state forum of APC chairmanship and councillorship candidates said this when he spoke with newsmen on Thursday in Yola.

He said that although the aspirants did their part by engaging in massive campaigns at the grassroots, the State Independent Electoral Commission decided to allocate votes to its preferred candidates.

In his words, “The election can best be described as a monumental charade and an insult to the nobility of democratic tenets; in a word, it was a sham.

“We as true democrats condemn this act in its entirety. We insist that social justice remains the abiding justification for good governance and politics.”

He lauded the APC stakeholders for their efforts toward the success of the election, singling out Alhaji Umar Madawaki, a governorship aspirant for commendation.

“The forum hereby allies with political ambition of Madawaki for the success of the party and development of the state.

“We urge the party to understand that no election is too small to merit the party’s support and no area shall be conceded to our political rivals.

“The party must pursue its electoral goals with great enthusiasm, untiring industry, dogged determination and work side by side with candidates in the entire election process in every part of the state,” he said.

It would be recalled that the State Independent Electoral Commission had declared the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the poll, clearing all the chairmanship seats in the 21 local government councils of the state.
