The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officially inaugurated its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2023 general elections yesterday despite the absence of six governors.

The governors of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike; Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde; Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ugwuanyi Ifeanyi; Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Benue State, Samuel Ortom were conspicuously absent from the ceremony.

The ceremony, which was held at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja, was attended by party leaders and adherents from all over the nation.

These PDP leaders at the inauguration include governors loyal to Atiku such as Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State; Diri Duoye of Bayelsa State; Godwin Obaseki of Edo State; Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State; Darius Ishaku of Taraba State; Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State; and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.

Former Vice President and Chairman of the occasion, Namadi Sambo while declaring the event open, entreated party members to rescue Nigeria from bad governance.

“We must close ranks and rescue Nigeria from ineptitude and bad governance,” he stated.

He continued, “I enjoin every hand to be on deck to ensure victory for Atiku Abubakar and the PDP, come 2023.”

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in his speech stated that the reason for the auspicious event is to rescue Nigeria.

“The main reason why we are gathered here today is to rescue Nigeria. This is the most important reason for today’s event.

“Our task today is to rescue Nigeria. It is a task that history beckons upon us to execute. To do this, we must be united to win all elections slated for 2023.”

He went further to deplore the parlous state of the Nigerian economy.

“This current government has lost the essence of governance. Our nation is in disarray. Education is in comatose, with twenty million out of school children, just to mention but a few,” he declared.

“All hope is not lost. My covenant with Nigerians is to ensure equity, fairness, safety and prosperity of Nigerians.

“To establish a strong, united and prosperous economy. To encourage the adoption of a true federal system of government with a restructured system of economy.”

In addition to the inauguration of the campaign council, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also used the occasion to unveil the Atiku Abubakar Books Presentation.
