Hajj Commission ends study tour in Indonesia

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON)’s study trip to Indonesia has ended with a closing ceremony in the office of Bank Muamalat Indonesia.
This was contained in a statement signed by NAHCON’s Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Fatima Usara.
The Commission had chosen Indonesia for the case study due to the similarities the two countries share in the variable of the Hajj industry. For instance, Indonesia has the largest number of pilgrims in the world; Nigeria has the largest number in Africa. The larger number of Hajj goers in the two countries are from rural areas.
Whereas the Indonesians seem better informed and are benefitting from the country’s BPKH, Nigeria’s Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS) is facing challenges while the rural populace seems still less aware of the benefits of the scheme.
Under the sponsorship of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) since 2019, a team of NAHCON staff embarked on a capacity-building visit to Badan Pengolola Keuangan Haji (BPKH) headquarters otherwise known as Indonesian (Sovereign) Hajj Fund Management Agency to see how best to improve on HSS, matters of general Hajj operations and Islamic Finance.
Staff received insight into how BPKH managed to record the successes it did within a short time. The lessons centred on the establishment of BPKH as a body backed by presidential authorization to manage the Hajj fund in Indonesia.
Consequently, while BPKH solely manages Hajj funds and investment, the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs centralizes its operations on organizing pilgrims.
The team also gained insight into the risk management of Hajj funds in BPKH, kinds of investment, human resource management, smart Hajj applications, the role of digital registration in easing and increasing hajj registration among others.
The team was simultaneously taken around to have an overview of the country’s Hajj enlightenment process. They were also taken around the pilgrims’ hostel in Jakarta.
Alhaji Nura Hassan Yakassai, NAHCON’s Commissioner of Policy, Personnel Management and Finance (PPMF) as well as the leader of the delegation observed in his closing remarks that the trip was truly educative.
He described the activities of the week as learning while having fun through the host’s warm reception, educative lectures, generous nourishment, visitations to places of interest, and the privilege of participating in the Indonesian Sharia Economic Festival week.
During the week, NAHCON Chairman, Alhaji Zikrullah Kunle Hassan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with the Honorable Minister of State on Owned Enterprises and Chairman of Masyarakat Ekonmi Syariah, Mr Erick Thohir.
In an emotional eulogy by Dr KM Mursudi Syuhud, Chairman and Chief Imam of the Indonesian Ulama prayed that the two organizations will grow bigger together as they join heads to work together.
He expressed confidence that there is success when people of faith gather with love seeking knowledge, guidance, livelihood and collaboration. The BPKH Chairman,
Mr Anggito Abimanyu encouraged the NAHCON delegation to remain focused and to utilize what they have learnt.

“He Never Turned His Back on the Needy” — Tributes Pour In Ahead of Buhari’s Burial

Just hours before the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, heartfelt tributes have continued to pour in from beneficiaries of his many charitable deeds, with many describing him as a man who never turned his back on the needy.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, Aminu Daura, a respected community elder, recalled how Buhari consistently provided foodstuffs during Ramadan for families, friends, widows, and orphans in his hometown.
“He never made noise about it, but many homes had food on their tables during fasting period because of him,” Daura said.
Abdullahi Sani, a physically-challenged man who received a tricycle from the Buhari Foundation in 2021, was overcome with emotion while speaking to NAN.
“I can move around and feed my family today because of Baba Buhari. I pray to Allah to reward him for giving hope to people like me,” he said, in tears.
Hajiya Fatima Yahaya, another resident, remembered Buhari’s acts of kindness during festive seasons.
“Even after he left office, his aides ensured that the usual support still reached us every year. He always remember his people,” she said, referring to his distribution of Sallah rams and food items to indigent families during Eid celebrations.
Other residents of Daura also shared memories of how the late former president quietly paid school fees and medical bills for struggling families, actions rarely publicized.
“Some of us benefited from his silent interventions. He was a true father and a great figure in the society,” said Ali Saidu.
On Monday night, Imams across various mosques in Daura held special Qur’anic recitations, praying for the forgiveness of Buhari’s sins and his eternal peace.
The Chief Imam of Daura Central Mosque, Sheikh Musa Kofar Barau, described Buhari as a humble leader whose legacy of service and compassion would remain alive in the hearts of the people.
Buhari is scheduled to be buried later on Tuesday in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in line with Islamic rites. The community is bracing to welcome thousands of mourners from across Nigeria and beyond.
