Tinubu Lauds Military for Crushing Bandits and Terrorists in North-West

President Bola Tinubu has praised the military for their successful operations against security threats in the North-West, reaffirming his confidence in the ability of the nation’s security forces to maintain peace.

These victories came in response to Tinubu’s directive for service chiefs to relocate to the region until normalcy was restored, according to the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

On Thursday, troops from Operation Hadarin Daji eliminated notorious bandit leader Halilu Sububu, who had been terrorizing communities in Zamfara, Sokoto, and other parts of the North-West. In a separate joint operation, security forces neutralized terrorist Sani Wala Burki in Katsina and dismantled a terrorist enclave in Kaduna, rescuing 13 kidnapped students.

President Tinubu expressed his admiration for the military’s high command, intelligence agencies, and troops, acknowledging their bravery, coordination, and commitment that led to these recent successes.

He further applauded the security apparatus for the improved national security and urged them to sustain the momentum until all threats to the nation are permanently addressed.

“President Tinubu reassures the security agencies of his continued support in achieving the priority objective of keeping the nation safe and secure,” Onanuga stated.

FG Pays Tribute to Fallen Heroes, Urges Preparation for 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s gratitude to Nigeria’s fallen heroes, recognising their sacrifice in ensuring the nation’s unity and corporate existence.

Matawalle made this known during the inauguration of the National Planning Committee for the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRDC) celebrations. His message was delivered in Abuja through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Kana.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held annually on January 15, commemorates the nation’s fallen soldiers and honours living veterans who have contributed to national security. The event also serves as a platform to recognize all security agencies working to safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“The Federal Government remains grateful to these Nigerians who laid their lives to guarantee the corporate existence of this country,” Matawalle said. “They have given their lives for the peace and security of our dear nation and are therefore worthy of being celebrated as a mark of appreciation.”

The minister urged the committee to begin preparations for the 2025 event and develop initiatives that would highlight the patriotism and sacrifice of the fallen heroes. “We must ensure that this event honours their work and inspires future generations to continue this noble service,” he added.

Key events planned for the remembrance include a ministerial briefing, the Nigerian Legion Humanitarian Day, the Emblem Appeal Launch by the President, Juma’at prayers, an interdenominational church service, and the wreath-laying ceremony scheduled for January 15, 2025.

The committee members were drawn from various government ministries, departments, and agencies, with the charge to deliver a memorable celebration that surpasses previous years’ efforts.
