Police arraign four for alleged theft of items worth N5m

Four men were on Wednesday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly breaking into a house to steal valuable items worth N5 million.

The Police charged the defendants-Ogundare Ayuba, 21, Ayomide Ojemuyiwa, 24, Adewale Adejare, 20 and Umar Idris, 23, whose addresses were not provided with stealing, damages and conspiracy.

The Prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendants and others still at large committed the offences on Oct.11 at about 6.20 a.m. at No 5, Ejigun Agbe, Itele area, Ota.

Adaraloye alleged that the defendants conspired to break into the house of the complainant, Olatunji Oluwasegun, through the ceiling and stole 4 air conditioners and 10 water fitters.

He added that the defendants also stole 3 sachet water sealing machines, three industrial plumbing machines and other valuable items valued at N5 million.

The prosecutor said that they were caught by the vigilante group and handed over to the police.

He said that the offences contravened the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Adeyemi, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N200,000 with one surety each in like sum.

Adeyemi ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.

She adjourned the case until Dec.14 for further hearing.
