NNPC warns Nigerians against panic buy, says there is enough petrol

By Matthew Eloyi

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has stated that there is no need for panic buying of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol.

The state-owned corporation stated that there will be enough of the product to suit the public’s needs.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Garba Muhammad, Public Affairs General Manager, made the guarantee.

According to the spokesman, Nigerians should ignore rumors of scarcity across the country.

In his words, “In line with the existing laws of the land, NNPC Ltd. is deeply committed to ensuring energy security for the country.”

Also on Wednesday, the NNPC presented a bill of N3trillion for deliberations at the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The meeting was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, said the amount is required to continue to subsidise petroleum products for the approved 18 months’ extension.
