Inter-state transport fares remain static as transporters record low passengers in Enugu

Inter-state transport Fares have remained almost the same in the Enugu metropolis two days before the Christmas celebration, reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

A NAN investigation shows that most transport companies are not recording appreciable passengers despite the closeness of the Christmas celebration.

NAN reports that at Garki motor parks, the fares from Enugu to Owerri remained N3,000 by Sienna and N2,500 by bus.

Also, at Holy Ghost, which has the largest concentration of transport companies, NAN observed that there was no passenger rush compared to what was usually obtained at this period of the season.

At various transport companies visited, transport fares remained static except for some little increases which were effected recently due to high cost of petrol.

The fare from Enugu to Aguata in Anambra state remains N2,500 by Sienna while Enugu to Onitsha by Upper Iweka is N3,500.

Enugu to Calabar, through Onitsha South Transport Company by Sienna, goes for N7,000.

A loader from one of the transport companies, Mr Ezekiel Ezeani, said that there was no need for an increment after their little adjustment over the petrol increase.

“How many passengers have you seen here? So, we don’t have any need to increase when the passengers are not surging forward,” he said.

An official of the Federal Assisted Urban Mass Transit, also told NAN that an increase in fares was not necessary at this point.

“We have not increased any fares rather we are looking for passengers,” he said.
