FUNAAB Alumni association tasks students on career improvement, entrepreneurial skills

Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Alumni Association says there was need to improve the career and entrepreneurial skills of students.

Dr Segun Ogundiran, National President of the Association, stated this at the maiden edition of the Post University Degree Summit (PUDS), organised for graduating students of FUNAAB on Thursday, in Abeokuta.

A statement issued by Mr Azeez Salawu, the association’s spokesman, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted Ogundiran as stressing the need to create an avenue for essential entrepreneurship, career, and leadership skills.

According to him, the present state of the country made the mental health of fresh graduates unstable, which in turn, affected the quality representation in different strata.

“The desire of the association is to have knowledgeable alumni, armed with the requisite skills that will drive the development of the country in areas of academic, social development, and career enhancements,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kolawole Salako, also noted that improving the career and entrepreneurial skills of students was paramount, as the university was turning out graduates from many quarters.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale, the vice-chancellor urged the participants to adequately utilise the opportunity provided by the summit to improve themselves.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Adebukunola Omemu said the programme was organised to boost the capacity of graduates, noting that the summit was the beginning of greater things to come.

Omemu urged the students to change the world rather than allowing the world to change them.

Similarly, Dr Modesta Ofodile, Principal Assistant Registrar, Guidance and Counselling Unit of the University, advised the graduands to be optimistic whenever they encountered any challenge, saying that they would surely overcome.
