FEC approves N27.07bn for road projects in Rivers and Enugu

The Nigerian cabinet has approved about N27.07billion for the Bodo-Bonny Road and Bridge in Rivers State, and the Idah-Nsukka Road.

The Bodo-Bonny Road is the first road link between the Bonny Island to other parts of Rivers State in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria, while the Idah-Nsukka Road links Kogi State and Enugu State.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola stated this while briefing the media after Wednesday’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Fashola said that the approvals followed two memoranda that he presented at the meeting.

“The first was to appoint the consultant to undertake the supervision consultancy for the construction of Bodo-Bonny Road and Bridge, which was previously awarded by Council.

“So, we now have a consultant helping to supervise what the contractor is doing.  The supervision consultancy was awarded at the sum of N895, 250, 000.00k to a group called Tell Consultants.”

Mr Fashola said that the second memorandum he presented to the meeting was for the contract for the rehabilitation of the Ida-Nsukka Road, an 84km linking Enugu and Kogi States.

He said that the Council approved the contract for the sum N26.172billion.
