Church building collapses in Lagos, injures worshippers

A Deeper Life Bible Church in the Iragbo locality of Badagry, Lagos State, collapsed on Sunday, injuring several worshipers.

It was gathered that the building collapsed at about 9 a.m. on Sunday due to a strong storm while the service was in progress.

While details of the incident are still vague, a representative from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) verified to newsmen that no life was lost.

According to reports, individuals who were seriously hurt were transferred to the General Hospital in Badagry for treatment.

The catastrophe is the latest in a string of building collapses in the country’s business heartland. Last year, a high rise in Ikoyi collapsed, killing dozens of people and wounding many more.

Building collapses have been linked to quackery, inferior building materials, pilfering, and faulty/non-adherence to blueprints, among other things, according to experts.
