Brekete Family host launches N18bn fundraiser to end ASUU strike

Ahmad Isah, the host of the famous radio show Brekete Family, has started a fundraising to end the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.

ASUU had been on strike since February 14 due to the Federal Government’s failure to follow through on the 2009 agreement.

Academic activities in government universities around the country have been hampered by the strike.

In an attempt to salvage the situation, Mr Isah, also known as Ordinary President, created a crowdfunding bank account to raise the N18 billion required by the university lecturers’ union to terminate the strike.

The radio personality, who shared the account details on Twitter, urged Nigerians to “make a difference” by donating to end the ASUU strike.

He said: “This #ASUU intervention donation shall determine how we can turn things around in this country. Your N50, N100, N200, N300, or N500 – N1billion, will make a difference.

“No be a shameful thing to support your mama and we support the federal government of Nigeria,” he tweeted in pidgin.

“President Muhammadu Buhari, this is one of your patriotic citizens saying that there is hunger in our Country. Nigerians are suffering.

“Some of the people that surround you are not telling you the truth. Please, hear us, my President #ASUU is still on strike,” he added.

The move drew a lot of attention on Twitter, and it was one of the most popular topics in the early hours of Thursday.

While many netizens praised his efforts, others questioned what the government’s role would be if citizens were to fix the education problem on their own.
